“Colonel Sanders sold a lot of fried chicken but I’m not sure anyone wants to know how he made it.” – Stephen King
After opening my private practice and creating a website to support it, I came to the realization that I’d have to create content for the site.
Seems easy enough, but it stopped me dead in my tracks. After all, what do I have to say that will be of any interest or significance to you? I’ve provided a lot of therapy, but will you really care about my personal insights? And more importantly, am I presumptuous enough to think you’re clamoring for a daily/weekly/monthly/sometimes-ly digest of my thoughts?
But as I continue to mull over the goals of the site it became clear; just write. Just share. After all, people have been coming to me for years for one specific reason; they believe I can offer them direction in living a more fulfilled life.
I realized the question I should be asking myself is why shouldn’t I write?
With stress alleviated (or at least reduced) I created a “manifesto” for myself:
The words I write aren’t life changing. The words don’t replace therapy. But maybe I’ll be able to share some insight into a therapist’s mind. Insights into some of the issues and patterns I see occurring daily. My intention is not to be a know-it-all. My intention is to simply share what I know. And more importantly, to share what I’ve learned along the way.
You won’t always agree with my perspective. In fact, please critique and challenge me. Then it will be a learning experience for us both.
